This year, dozens of BAERI researchers will be involved in a wide range of AGU…
…and Babies Make 4 Marathoners
BAER Institute scientist, Ann Marie Cody, is an avid runner and the mother of triplets. She‘s sometimes seen running through the NASA Ames campus at noon with her children strapped into a 3-seated stroller. On April 15, 2018, she broke her own Guinness World Record time, for the fastest half-marathon while pushing a pram in the inaugural Silicon Valley Half Marathon in San Jose, CA. At 1 hour, 46 minutes and 13 seconds, she beat her previous time set last year at the Fresno California Classic Half-Marathon, by two minutes.
A researcher at the Kepler/K2 Guest Observer office, Cody’s determination to run is to show that women don’t have to give up their passions after having children and continuing to work full-time. Of special significance, Cody runs to raise funds for El Camino Hospital’s neonatal unit in Mountain View. Her efforts are a payback to the nurses and staff for the care they provided to her children who spent a month in the unit after their premature birth. Another nonprofit organization that Cody raises funds for is Project Sweet Peas, which supports families of premature and ailing babies. Cody has a website with links to these causes.
Of course, the sight of a woman pushing a giant stroller while running this latest marathon attracted media attention, including newspaper and television. Congratulations, Ann Marie!
