Evidence Found of Near-Surface Ice on Mars
First author and BAERI alumna Erica Luzzi, alongside co-authors that include BAERI’s Ariel Deutsch and Alexander Sehlke, have found evidence of near-surface ice on Mars, close to areas under consideration for potential future Mars landing sites. The team used high resolution satellite imagery to analyze landforms on the red planet’s surface. The implications of these findings are far-reaching: for instance, ice may provide water for drinking, fuel, and more, for eventual human explorers. It may also contain evidence of current or past life on the planet. Read more in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets here.
