Groundbreaking Research Classifying and Cataloguing Mercury’s Hollows
In the journals JGR: Planets and JGR: Machine Learning and Computation, BAERI Research Scientist Ariel Deutsch and a team of researchers have published two papers on Mercury’s hollows, “small, shallow, rimless depressions” on the planet’s surface. The ground-breaking studies classify and catalogue hollows’ degradation states, and the authors expect the openly-available findings will “inform systematic, global-scale studies of hollow formation as well as future orbital imaging efforts by the ESA/JAXA BepiColombo mission.”
