BAERI’s Navdeep Panesar helps launch citizen science project to study the sun

Citizen science projects are nothing new for BAERI researchers, whether it’s teaching the public to identify transiting exoplanets (Planet Hunters Coffee Chat), or building an iPad game that helps classify the world’s coral reefs (NeMO-Net). We can now add one more project to the list: The Solar Jet Hunter project, recently launched by an international team of scientists on the zooniverse platform, which helps scientists identify bursts of plasma coming off the sun.

In addition to BAERI’s Navdeep Panesar, the project team includes researchers at the University of Minnesota, New Jersey Institute of Technology, The European Space Agency, Catholic University, and Leiden University,

You can learn more about the project by reading this research brief from the University of Minnesota, or get involved and start identifying solar jets yourself by visiting the Solar Jet Hunter project page on zooniverse.
